\nThis week we read a Flat Stanley project that we got back from Nicaragua and the children's reactions to this project would have been wonderful to get on voice thread. In the project, the person that wrote it told us that they don't have money for libraries there and that they don't get to go to school as much as we do. The kids were absolutely horrified and couldn't understand how this could be. Several of them wondered if we could raise money to send them for books... It would a wonderful project for the kids to speak their thoughts from their hearts (after brainstorming and preparing what they want to say) on the microphone put it on voice thread, and then if I had a web site (HA!) (next year!) I could post it on my web site with buttons and maybe they could raise some money to help the children there. There are a lot of "ifs" involved! \nThis week we have been reading our "flat Stanley" letters that have been sent back to us. I was sharing a letter from Texas and the class had lots of questions. I pulled up Texas on Google Maps & then used the little man to try and locate one of the places that "Stanley" went. \n-Voice Thread- Let students choose a piece of writing they have published this year and read it on Voice Thread. I was thinking their "icon" could be the illustration from their writing.
\n-Google Maps- Map\/Pinpoint locations where our "Flat Stanley" visits We could find out whose went the farthest distance, how many countries, states or continents our Flat Stanleys visited
\n-Google Maps- I thought it was neat when you could get the street view...I thought it would be neat to get the street view of some major landmarks we study...the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, etc.

\n
\nTeachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS\u2022S.
\n
\nTeachers:
\na. design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity
\n
\nThis is very important in today's classrooms. Students who get a chance to use programs such as photo story or audacity can share their voice and creativity in projects. These kinds of programs are quickly becoming the way of the world.
\n
\nb. develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become
\nactive participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress
\n
\nAs students use technology tools to create projects, they also can assess their own learning and affectiveness at presenting the topic to the class. Students can work at their own level of experience and pace if time allows and learn new technology programs as they use them. Keeping a wiki space allows them not only to critique others, but to see what other students think about their work.
\n
\nc. customize and personalize learning activities to address students\u2019 diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources
\n
\nAll of Gardner's Multiple Intelligences can be utilized through technology. Whether it is using Microsoft Word to write linguistically, or a Power point to create a visual spatial project, or by acting out a skit, puppet show, or clay animation; students can work with and explore their own styles, strategies, and abilities.
\n
\nd. provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content
\n
\nWith new technologies such as the SMART Board, students can be assessed quickly by using the Senteo Clickers. They can also be tested at the end of the unit again using the same strategy or any teacher-created SMART Board summative assessment.
